Central Air Conditioner - Air Conditioning Measurement Unit

The most unique and well known air conditioning is the Central air conditioners and its energy efficiency is measured in a unit called SEER, which is basically known as seasonal energy efficiency ratio.

air conditioners for sliding windows

It is basically used for the measurement of air conditioner but based on the units of power consumed with various other factors involved in it. It should be always at its optimum for a proper running of the systems. Normally rating of ten is considered to be stable and good for the efficient running of the unit.

AIR CONDITIONERS

A Central air conditioner is very easy to install and quite user friendly for home uses. You should make sure that the outdoor compressor which is attached to the unit is placed in a shady and warm area.

This should be mainly done for the reduction in the consumption of electricity and energy level from the unit, which in turns becomes an added advantage and benefit for the purchaser of the product to buy it.

The house should have at least one or two-foot airflow around the entire unit and for this purpose, the proper installation is to be done for the unit because this helps in the proper maintenance and supply of cool air for a longer time period.

Air Conditioning Unit

Another important feature of an air conditioning and refrigeration is that of a high velocity air conditioning unit and with a relatively new technology. Such units can be added to any home.

This new technology consists of flexible tubing of two or three inches diameter and it also has an insulated tube which could be fixed behind the walls or inside closets of the air condition without damaging the any of the house's plaster or sheet but it also some times depends on the size and shape of house you live in.

Instead of large metals and other materials, it is advisable and recommended to have a two inch vent in the ceiling of the building or on the wall and it would be invisible and much clear, when it is painted.

This new technology also cools at a faster rate and makes a cooling environment. Thus, this system is quite an easy and sustainable for controlled air conditioning through traditional duct work of the air condition.

Air Conditioning Unit Measurement:

Window air conditioning is another much famous air conditioning and refrigeration method, which could be measured by the simpler calculation of EER, which is called as Energy Efficiency Ratio. The other fact you should always have in mind is that EER could vary and differ greatly between the models of the test and thus it is important and secured to read out the Energy Guide label very carefully before buying that product.

It is always necessary to read out the valid rules and regulation and conditions of the product.

It is always important to be wise and take a careful decision before you buy any air conditioning and refrigeration product.

Air Conditioning Options - Central, Ductless, Or Through-the-Wall

Question:

I would like to setup air conditioning on the 1st floor of my 2 story home. I have casement style windows that swing out so I can't setup a window unit. I could setup central air, but I don't use the 2nd floor of the house. The windows are 10 yr old Anderson. Should I replace 1 window with a double hung window so I can fit in an air conditioner or go for central air?

CASEMENT WINDOW AIR CONDITIONERS

Answer:

My first option for power efficiency, as well wide comfort, would be to setup a central air conditioning system. These systems can be "zoned" so they will only cool one floor of the home and not both. However, you honestly should plan on both and discuss that with your undertaker of a package deal as it may be less high-priced to setup some of the ducting to "get ready" for cooling the second floor at some point in the future.

Another option might be to setup a through-the-wall air conditioning unit. Many of the larger units are available with wall mounted sleeves. To install, you'd need to cut a hole in the exterior wall and frame it out the same way you'd frame an opening for a window or door. It is very prominent to do this correctly, as you will be impacting the structural integrity of the house. Also, this type of theory will very likely cause a heat loss in the winter as it is very difficult to seal it to forestall cold air leaking in.

A better option, which cost-wise will be in in the middle of the cost of a central theory and a through-the-wall mounted portable, might be ductless air conditioning. I have Fujitsu ductless air conditioning theory like this in my office and the ductless air conditioning theory works very well as a supplement to my central system, which doesn't fully extend into the office space. With ductless air conditioning, you have a wall blower that hangs on the inside wall of your home. This is related via a refrigerant line to a small compressor which sits outside, just like a central system. The compressor supplies chilled refrigerant to the blower inside, which circulates the cooled air.

Given the above, my option would be (1) central; (2) ductless; (3) through-the-wall.

Regardless of what you finally decide, you should be sure to pick the most power efficient air conditioning unit possible. power Star has an exquisite new agenda called Cool Your World With power Star @ Home that can help you understand cooling efficiency and options.

Portable Air Conditioners Versus Central Air Conditioning System

The basic concept behind the creation of all air conditioning units remains common. The same is the case with fundamental components needed: Every air conditioner has working fluid, pump, evaporator and condenser.

air conditioners 10000 btu

Thermostat and expansion valve are also indispensable components. There are features unique to each type of air conditioning system in apart from the common features.

AIR CONDITIONERS

A comprehensive research of the available brands is essential for determining the model that best fits your requirements, lifestyle and budget.

Portable Air Conditioners

They are famous for their portability. As the meaning implies, the portable air conditioner is on wheels, facilitating the movement across various rooms.

They can have up to 4,100 watts of output, and the purchase of electric resistance heaters along with the unit is left to the choice of customers. These units are available as two variants.

1) Split air conditioners
2) Mono block air conditioners

They are in need of ducts to release the air outside, hot air in case of cooling and cool air in case of heating. The efficiency is less if you compare it with other types of air conditioners and it may not be possible in rooms where there is no outlet for hot air to escape.

Central Air Conditioning Units

They are popular in well developed countries like USA and the UK.

They use ducts to distribute dehumidified (moisture content reduced air or in simple terms hot air) or cool air to a large sized room or multiple rooms. They are also able to use pipes to transport chilled water to heat exchangers.

There are two ways of installing this unit. One way is to place some components inside and others outside of the room.

The other way is to use it as a single composite unit placed at top of roofs or in the centre of vast areas such as college libraries etc.

The benefits offered by this category of air conditioners over weigh the ones offered by other varieties.

The first is that the air is filtered when using this system, making the air cleaner and easier to breathe which is especially beneficial to asthma patients.

Moreover the system is quieter and less disruptive than several other units.

Other Types of Air Conditioning Units

While central and portable air conditioning units are the most common, there are other types of systems as well. These air conditioning systems include mini split air conditioners, evaporative coolers etc.

Once you are acquainted with the facts, deciding on the appropriate one will be a simple task.

So prioritize your desires. If you are looking for convenience as the main criteria, you would find portable air conditioning system as a good choice.

However, if efficiency and cleanliness are your predominant choices, then choose a central air conditioning unit.

Comparing Air Conditioning Prices

Air conditioners are another large speculation just as other items you would buy for your home. For many homes, there is no Ac unit installed or central Ac, and this means you are going to be responsible for buying your own. Consumers are often times intimidated by the price of some units, and there are a few things that are going to sway the price of air conditioners. Ac units come with operating costs as well as maintaining them over time. Here are some things to keep in mind when you are looking to buy a unit and what to assess in dissimilar units.

Things to Consider

CASEMENT WINDOW AIR CONDITIONERS

One foremost thing to reconsider is the fact of the unit being energy efficient. You should look for models that are energy Star to help conserve energy and having this rating means that the unit has met requirements by the Environmental protection Agency. These units are labeled for being very energy efficient, and while these types of units are going to have a higher price tag, they are going to be good for your home and cooling needs in the long run. Costs for operating these types of units will also be lower in the long run.

Size

The purpose of an air conditioner is to cool a room or area and take off the hot air outside straight through a hose or other exit method. The size of the unit you are using is going to help cool the room down more and helps to make the area more comfortable. Smaller units are typically lower priced, but this doesn't always mean it's a good option. Explore prices and assess features to see what your best options are. Smaller units also may cost more to run and operate as they need to run longer to cool your area or room down and this means ample costs are increased.

Features

Traditional conditioning units are plainly going to cool down your area or room, and they will also take off the humidity. Some features that are on newer units and are upgrades comprise handlers that are designed to cycle off and on with discrete motors which allow the noise to be lower sounding, and it also allows cold room to blow into the room. There are also some units that feature timers which allow consumers to set a timer when the unit kicks on and off again. While it can add to the price of the unit, it will help save money over time.

Frequency Used

If you live in an area that does not wish the continuous use of your air conditioner, price of the unit may not matter as much. For those of you who live in hotter climates, the price of a unit is going to play a role in the unit that is chosen. For those who select units that are going to be used often, make sure you look into the seasonal energy efficiency ratio to ensure that it is energy productive for your needs.

Marine Air Conditioners - Marine Air Conditioning System

Marine air conditioner is also the same as the other conditioners available in today's market. It has bought a revolution in the air conditioning industry introducing one in the marine system.

air conditioners for small windows

It involves almost in all the fields. Marine air systems are a leading supplier in the chilled water systems for more yachts on a worldwide basis.

AIR CONDITIONERS

They are designed by the domestic environment corporation, which was developed by Taylor made group. Along with this marine chilled water system, domestic environmental corporation also launched its air conditioners and refrigerators.

This uses the HVAC system of cooling the temperature. Domestic corporation serves as one of the leading suppliers in accessory and air conditioning products. This also works same as the other conditioners. It also helps in controlling the temperature of the room and the humidity of the air.

It maintains a constant temperature once it is regulated. This air conditioner almost works under the same mechanism and its components comprised in the central cooling unit.

Advantages and disadvantages

There are both the advantage and the disadvantages with this system. The main advantage is that it is located in the less occupied areas and it requires no pipe line to connect with the other. This system is used for any size of boat or any size budget.

It has made the marine air conditioners more adaptable and easy to install. This would be the smallest, lightest and the quietest conditioner in the market. It uses varies digital controls to keep track of the system. Marine air conditioning lowers the noise levels and it eliminates the zoning of central equipment.

Marine air conditioning helps in controlling the temperature and to maintain the quality of the air. It works more than the other cooling central equipment. The total life cycle of the equipment is favorably more than the central equipment. It also cost less than other system.

Ductless Split Air Conditioner - Advantages of Using Ductless Air Conditioning

Ductless split air conditioners have been manufactured and used in Japan for many years and it has been recently introduced in other countries also. They are mainly used in multi family houses, schools, office buildings, restaurants, cinema theaters and auditoriums.

air conditioners for casement windows

The Ductless split air conditioners also commonly known as "mini-splits" like the central systems have two units - an air handling unit which includes a fan and an evaporator and a compressor.

AIR CONDITIONERS

The compressor and the condenser comprise one unit and are placed outside the house. The fan and the evaporator unit are placed in the room that has to be cooled. These both units are combined using a conduit that has the power cable, drain and the tubing.

These split air conditioner systems have several advantages and limitations. The advantages are that it can be easily installed i.e. we need not make any ducts on the walls, the operation of the air conditioner's compressor doesn't produce much noise and it gives a quiet environment.

These systems provide zone cooling facility and help in energy saving using the thermostat that helps in controlling the zones independently. The Seasonal Energy Efficiency ratio of the Ductless split air conditioning systems are in the range 10.0 and 11.5.

They also provide a wide range of options for the interior designing. They also help in making the building safe and secure from the robbers and intruders.

The major disadvantage of these ductless split air conditioner systems is the cost of the system. There are priced in the range of 1500$ to 2000$ per ton which is nearly twice the price of the window systems.

These systems can't be installed at any random place. We have to choose a proper location for placing the air handling unit. If it is not positioned at a proper place or if doesn't have a proper size, there are possibilities of the air bouncing between the walls resulting in a short cycle of the air and we won't have good cooling effect and lot of energy will also be wasted in this case.

These systems should also have proper facility to drain the condensate else it would lead to staining the building walls.

History of Air Conditioning

It is a wonderful thing to be able to flip a switch, and have an entire room cooled off through air conditioning. Portable room air conditioners make sense when you wish to cool certain parts of your home, office, or covered outdoor living spaces. Air conditioning is commonly found in buildings today, but it was not always the case throughout history.

air conditioners window units

Wealthy ancient Egyptian families could enjoy the cooling benefits brought from aqueduct water that traversed the insides of walls in buildings. Water was an expensive commodity in that hot region of the world, so only the rich could afford this luxury. Medieval Persians made use of wind towers and cisterns to cool their buildings. Wind would be captured in the wind tower, and it was then directed over the water in the open cistern, which would evaporate and cool the ambient temperature inside the dwelling.

AIR CONDITIONERS

Later on, the idea that liquefied ammonia, when it evaporated, could cool the air was thought up by British scientist Michael Faraday in 1820. In America in 1842, Dr. John Gorrie created a machine to make ice, and he used the ice to cool the air in his hospital in Florida.

Industry was the primary reason that air conditioners were created around the turn of the last century in the United States. Willis Haviland Carrier created the first electrical air conditioner in 1902, which was used to cool and dehumidify the air in a printing plant. The term "air conditioning" was coined by American Stuart W. Cramer in 1906, who came up with a way to add moisture to the air, which was crucial in his textile manufacturing mill.

Toxic gases were used to run the early air conditioners, but Thomas Midgley, Jr. created Freon refrigerant in 1928. Unfortunately, he did not know that Freon is bad for the ozone, and recently newer refrigerants have been developed that are safer for the environment.

Air conditioning is not only used today to make our homes and other buildings more comfortable. You will find air conditioning used in land, water and space vehicles. Air conditioning is used to also filter out bad particles in the air, such as in hospital operating rooms. If you have allergies or asthma, air conditioning can help remove the pollen, dander and dust that causes these conditions to flare up. The elderly can also be at risk if they are in a too-hot building, so air conditioning can be crucial for their well being. Some air conditioners are also dehumidifiers, which take the excess moisture out of the air to make you more comfortable in terms of your temperature. Today we are lucky that a great air conditioner is your answer for cooling comfort.

Air Conditioning Air Filters - How to Clean Air Conditioning Filters

In order to ensure proper functioning of the air conditioners, you should make proper arrangements to be sure that the air conditioning air filters are matching with the unit and it is clean.

air conditioners window units

The air filters are mainly used to help provide a cleaner environment and protect us from dust allergies. The main intention of using air conditioning filters is to keep the components of the air conditioner clean.

AIR CONDITIONERS

A air filter has many ill effects such as, they have reduced level of cooling and heating, they lead to the failure of the compressor, they increase the blower power consumption level, the equipments with dirty filter has a shorter life.

We should clean the conditioner air filters at least once in two months for home applications and within 2 weeks in an office environment. We shouldn't wait for the entire filter to be filled with dust and then clean it. If you find that the fiberglass is coated with dust then you can be sure that it is time to clean the air filter or even replace it.

The size of the air conditioning air filters would be 1.5 square feet of filter for a capacity of one ton. There are many types of air filters available - fiberglass filters, mesh filters, electrostatic filters and the electronic filters.

The fiberglass filters are mainly used in residences. They have a low cost with low efficiency too. These are coated with adhesives to collect dust. When this filter is being cleaned, the adhesive is also removed along with the dust and the filter becomes useless.

The mesh filter is permanent air filters made of aluminum mesh can be cleaned and dried easily. The electrostatic filter uses the idea that the air movement via the filter generates static charge and collects the dust particles.

The electronic filters use the electrical power for filtering the air and they are also a form of permanent filter. The main aspect that has to be considered while choosing an air conditioning filter are that the duct from which the air returns are sealed thoroughly from the air leak or else the unfiltered air will enter the stream of air.
